Common questions…
Q. I’m brand new to yoga. Where do I start based on your offerings?
A. Jenny encourages people to pause and reflect on the kind of learner and mover you naturally are. This will help guide you into a supportive starting environment.
You may be someone who likes more guidance and explanation when learning new things - a private session may be a good start for this type of beginner. Privates offer personal attention and time for in-depth exploration that you may not be able to connect with in a first time group setting.
Perhaps you are the the kind of person who prefers group energy to support your first practice. If you’re joining either a live or virtual group class, it is recommended that you arrive early and let Jenny know. This will give her an opportunity to acclimate you to the space, chat about any relevant personal circumstances and offer general guidance before a group class starts.
Jenny upholds a safe, non-judgement space for everyone to explore themselves and their bodies. She recommends that you tune into your own inner guidance above all else when engaged in your practice.
Q. I’m interested in a private session, but have some concerns and/or a personal circumstance. Can I have a consultation with Jenny before signing on for a private session?
A. Yes, of course! Your concerns and thoughts matter. It is your body, after all. Jenny strives to best serve the needs and intentions of your practice and that means understanding your background. If you want to chat about your circumstance or have any questions prior to scheduling a private session, just contact Jenny and she will call or email you back (whichever you prefer - please specify). Your well-being and your body are unique to you. Don’t ever hesitate to ask questions or discuss what’s on your mind.
Q. Can you explain your virtual class types further? (That text was too small on the booking page!)
A. No problem! The yoga world can be confusing in the way it names classes. Class names are often studio specific or lineage influenced so understandably they can leave you wondering what you’re practicing. For additional information on virtual class descriptions below, please click here.

Q. How do I book a private session?
A. Just as with group classes, click on the BOOK ONLINE button.
Choose your private session type under type of appointment - both in-person and virtual options are available. Pick a day and time that works for you. If you don’t see your ideal time, just contact Jenny and she will do her best to work with your schedule. There are options for discounted pre-paid private packages. For all private packages, you will receive a code to use for future bookings once your initial purchase is complete.
In-Person Private Session: You will choose the location where you want to have practice and answer a few questions regarding COVID-19 health and safety when booking in-person sessions.
Virtual Private Session: You will receive an appointment reminder that includes a secure Zoom link 24 hours before your session. Jenny will open the space 5 minutes before your session starts. You have the option to request that your virtual sessions be recorded for a library of classes personal to you. This perk does not cost extra. With each session, you build your own private library of customized classes to access whenever you want to practice.
Q. Do class pack purchases expire? Are they refundable?
A. Group class packs purchases do not have an expiration date. Jenny will honor your purchase for as long as you have remaining sessions left. These discounted packages are non-refundable. However, if you have a special circumstance or significant life change, Jenny is not unreasonable and understands that life just happens! Contact if you have additional questions.
Q. If I take a virtual livestream class, do I have to turn my camera on?
A. Absolutely not. If you don’t feel comfortable turning it on, leave your camera off. For many beginners, the anonymity of online practice has helped them take their first step onto the mat. If this is you, there is no pressure to turn your camera on. Jenny trusts that you will exercise good judgement to keep yourself safe in your space when she cannot visually see you.
If you do choose to turn on your camera, Jenny will be able to offer you her eyes and real-time guidance. Most students in a virtual group class keep their visual on Jenny for any demonstrations. If your camera is on, you will only be seen by another attendee if they watch on gallery view. That being said, gallery view can offer the virtual version of a group practice and Jenny encourages you to try this as long as it’s not a distraction to you.
If your camera is on and you want to be seen clearly for verbal feedback, position your own laptop or device 6-8 ft. away and elevated off the floor. If you are unsure and want to do a live test, contact Jenny and she’s happy to walk you through the set up outside of class time.
Q. Is Jenny practicing or watching when she’s leading a virtual livestream class?
A. Both. Jenny does a significant part of the practice with everyone, but keeps an eye on the class via a larger background screen. Don’t be surprised if you’re mid-flow and her face is suddenly close to the screen while addressing a specific person before returning to her mat. This hybrid approach works well for open level groups as there will inevitably be some people who will just want or need to see a visual demonstration on-screen.
Q. What if I have questions during class?
A. Questions are always welcome! Pausing in the middle of class to address questions can interrupt the flow and embodiment of your yoga practice. However, Jenny never wants you to leave with question marks in your head. You’re welcome to ask questions before or after class (both in-person or online). She also invites you to reach out for support any time, off the mat. Yoga is a living, breathing practice and who knows when questions may pop up! Learning is never linear so don’t hesitate to contact Jenny.
Q. What if I don’t have any yoga props at home, but I still want to join a virtual class?
A. You can still join! There are many creative substitutes for yoga props. Below are a few household equivalents:
2 blocks = 2 books of similar thickness OR 2 unopened soup cans (soup cans are for hand elevation only, not to sit or stand on)
1 yoga blanket = 1 thick bath/beach towel OR 1 thin bed blanket
yoga strap = bathrobe belt OR regular (pant) belt OR long rectangular scarf
bolster = large, firm couch cushion OR several thick bath towels folded/rolled together OR 2-3 stacked bed pillows
If you’re still stuck on how to support your practice as home, don’t hesitate to contact and ask Jenny. She would be more than happy to help you find suitable items in your house.
Q. I used to practice in a group class setting with Jenny in Manhattan. What happened to those studios and gyms? Is there any opportunity to practice in-person in other boroughs, besides Brooklyn?
A. The public studios and gyms Jenny was affiliated with prior to the COVID-19 lockdown in Manhattan have sadly closed permanently.
Jenny leads group classes within private studios in the borough of Manhattan. If your building has a private studio that is looking for instructors, please share with Jenny! She would love the opportunity to visit you right where you live. She is experienced and has taught in many private buildings and apartment complexes across the New York City metro area, as well as, Jersey City and Hoboken in New Jersey.
If you own or manage a studio and would like Jenny to teach classes or workshops at your studio, please contact to discuss further.
If you would like to practice in-person with Jenny in Manhattan, book a private session HERE. Life will shift again (and again, and again…) so check back as the schedule is updated whenever new offerings arise.
